"Janky Skate" is a choose-your-own-adventure game featuring three skater characters, each with their own set of tricks. The game concept is straightforward: players make choices, and the story unfolds accordingly. The trick pages consist of GIFs created in Photoshop, with each trick repeated three times to accommodate each player. While this repetitive task was tedious, it ensured inclusivity for all characters. However, creating more varied options for each character could enhance the game's excitement and replay value.
Despite the tedium, the project was enjoyable overall. One aspect that could have streamlined the process is leveraging coding knowledge to automate page creation and linking, potentially saving time. Nevertheless, the game's current version, while somewhat lacking in variety, lays a solid foundation for future improvements.
The characters, drawn digitally in Paint, aim for a homemade, endearing aesthetic. This intentional "homemade-kind-of-bad but cute" style adds charm to the game. Similarly, the backgrounds, created using the same method, contribute to the overall aesthetic and atmosphere.
In summary, "Janky Skate" is a fun project with room for growth. With additional time and effort, adding more diverse options and refining the gameplay mechanics could elevate the experience. Nonetheless, the game's quirky characters and charming visuals provide a solid framework for future development.
